The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, has formally outlined Tehran’s conditions for negotiations with the United States, simultaneously declaring the nation’s readiness for a “decisive war” if diplomatic efforts fail.
In an extensive interview with Al Jazeera, Rezaei confirmed that Iran is actively engaged in consultations with Qatari and Pakistani mediators. He stated that Tehran has officially conveyed its terms for resuming talks and exiting the current conflict through these diplomatic channels.
Rezaei warned that threats from US President Donald Trump will yield no results, asserting that it is directly in Washington’s interest to accept Iran’s conditions. He criticized the US administration’s calculations regarding Iran as fundamentally flawed and accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately instigating the conflict. The security chief noted that following the US withdrawal from a prior memorandum of understanding, Tehran became convinced of the absolute necessity to alter its broader strategy toward Washington.
Highlighting Iran’s military preparedness, Rezaei stated that the country is acutely aware of the US military’s strategic vulnerabilities and is more prepared than ever to counter any potential air strikes. To underscore this readiness, he revealed that Iranian forces recently conducted an anti-ship missile test in close proximity to a US aircraft carrier.
Rezaei issued a stark warning against further military escalation, emphasizing that Iran is entirely serious about its defense. Should the country face an attack, he stated, Iranian forces will retaliate by striking US military bases and broader American interests across the region with unprecedented force.
